Hello, archives??
I'm a little concerned that the links to my archives appear to be broken. if anyone has any ideas of what to do about this, your suggestions are very much appreciated!
My entire body aches. We went skating for 3 hours yesterday, after a two-year skating hiatus. Our objective was to skate to the end of the skate path they clear on the river every year. I was doing fine until we got to the end of the path and turned around to head home... up until that point, I'd only fallen once and it was more of a graceful collapse than a full-on nosedive. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse as the pain from my sore ankles and the blisters on my feet became more noticeable and the sun set below the horizon, dropping the temperature by a few more degrees.. I was sore, cold, and tired and suddenly, apparently, absolutely unable to skate. I fell about 6 or 7 more times on the way home, each fall more vicious than the last. We're talking horrible, violent falls, with either my knees, elbows, or in one case CHEEKBONE making full harsh contact with the cold, unforgiving ice. Between whimpering in pain and giggling uncontrollably at my own klutziness, it became more and more difficult to get up after each time I fell, even with Nick's helping hand... I resembled a drunken 16-year-old girl after too many sourpuss shots. Finally we abandoned the skating altogether and I hobbled to the nearest bench to feebly attempt to remove my skates from my throbbing ankles with my numb, frozen fingers. We walked the rest of the way home on the frozen river. After being on skates for so long I felt like a penguin, tottering from side to side and concentrating on just getting one foot in front of the other. We made it home at last and thawed over hot chocolate as I continued to shiver for the next thirty minutes. I don't remember the last time I was so cold... maybe not since that time in 7th grade when I foolishly agreed to spend 4 hours freezing my ass aboard a float in the Santa Claus Parade, with a sickly smile pasted to my frostbitten face, waving pathetically and tossing candy to hoards of shrieking children.
So today I inspect my wounds and watch for my bruises to turn interesting shades of green, blue and grey. I can feel muscles I haven't felt in a long while and I wonder how long it will take for the blisters on my feet to heal.
Next weekend, I'll definitely be wearing thicker socks.
